The PowerSeek SQL mobile edition is almost exactly the same as the standard edition of PowerSeek SQL. The only difference between the two versions is that the Mobile Edition has some minor changes and tweaks so that it can specifically be used to create a Search Engine & Directory for mobile devices.
Follow the instructions in this section if you have an existing Search Engine & Directory and would like to create a mobile version of it specifically for mobile devices. You will then have a standard PowerSeek SQL Search Engine & Directory and additionally a mobile version of your Search Engine & Directory for mobile devices.
Step 1: Install the PowerSeek SQL Mobile Edition
Download and install the PowerSeek SQL Mobile Edition. It can be downloaded here. (Note that the PowerSeek SQL mobile edition is only available from PowerSeek SQL Ver 6 and later.) You can find the PowerSeek SQL installation instructions here. Make sure that you don't use the existing directories of the existing PowerSeek SQL installation when installing the PowerSeek SQL mobile edition. The new installation for the mobile edition needs to be installed in it's own directories.
Duplicating the links and categories of the original installation:
At some point in the installation you are instructed to run setup.cgi - When supplying the MySQL database name, MySQL user name and MySQL password when running setup.cgi use the same database details as the original installation of PowerSeek SQL. This is so that the mobile version of your Search Engine & Directory can serve the same links and categories as the standard version. The only difference would be that the mobile edition will be serving the links and categories with a mobile version of your Search Engine & Directory especially for mobile devices.
You can obtain the MySQL database name, MySQL user name and MySQL password inside config.cgi of the original PowerSeek SQL installation. You may download config.cgi and open it with a Unix compatible text editor like Textpad. (Textpad.com) config.cgi will be situated inside the cgi-bin directory of the original PowerSeek SQL installation.
Step 2: Customize mobile Templates
By now you should have installed the mobile edition of PowerSeek SQL. The mobile edition will have the exact categories and links that the original installation of PowerSeek SQL has.
The mobile edition of PowerSeek SQL already comes with templates especially created for mobile devices. You can customize these templates by adding your own logo for example and changing some aspects of the templates according to your needs.
It will be a good idea to use something like the Opera Mobile Emulator to test the changes you make to the mobile templates. You can copy and paste the 'preview' URL's from the Template Manager into the address bar of the Opera Mobile Emulator browser's URL address bar to preview or test templates.
The default templates that come with the PowerSeek SQL mobile edition has specifically been created for mobile devices. If you do not have specific needs where you need to change individual templates then you can only change the PowerSeek SQL logo to your own logo and leave the mobile templates 'as is'. To only change the logo do the following:
Go to the Control Panel >> Template Manager >> Template Includes >> Edit the %%incl_head%% 'template include' and remove the current logo and replace the logo with your own.

Step 3: Create a front page for the mobile version
By now you should have customized the templates or implemented your logo for the mobile version of your Search Engine & Directory.
To create a front page for the mobile version of your Search Engine & Directory, go to the Control Panel of the Mobile version of PowerSeek SQL >> Template Manager >> Front Page Setups >> Choose 'Front Page Template' and click 'Next'.
After clicking the 'Next' button you can set various configuration options of the front page. Note that it is not a good idea to use more than one column to list categories. Sticking the a single column to list the categories would be best practice for mobile devices.
After setting the configuration options of the front page, click the 'Next' button.
You will now be presented with a URL to the front page of the mobile version of your Search Engine & Directory. It will be a URL to fp.cgi - Open your existing front page for your standard Search Engine & Directory and place this link near the top left of your existing front page so that people with mobile browsers/devices can click this link to use the mobile version of your Search Engine & Directory if need be.
Notes:
There are ways to detect mobile browsers and forward people to the mobile version of your site. At the time of this writing there is not yet a standard on this detection which makes a full-proof method of mobile browser detection not possible.
Many modern mobile browsers or browsers of tablets will be advanced enough to view the standard version of your Search Engine & Directory without any issues.
For the above mentioned reasons it may be better just to place a link on the standard version of your front page to the mobile version of your front page.
